How to Become a Professional M&W Driver

IMG_2233

A family run business from the start, M&W places a high value on the drivers who work with us.  We offer several great benefits, including medical and dental insurance, life insurance, paid holidays, a 401 k plan, and more.

We have a great company culture, and we ensure our drivers are home on the weekends. Because of this, we often get asked, “How do I become a truck driver for M&W?”  So we wanted to take a just moment to go over the steps to becoming a truck driver for M&W logistics.

Obtain a Commercial Driver’s License

The first step to becoming a driver for M&W Logistics is obtaining your Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). This license authorizes you to drive commercial vehicles in the U.S. You will need to complete the following steps to receive your CDL:

  • Pick up a copy of the Tennessee CDL manual. This is where you will find all the information you need to pass the written exam.
  • Pass a written exam. After you have studied all you need to know, you will need to take a written exam to display your knowledge of truck driving.
  • Pass a skills test. Finally, you will need to pass a skills test to obtain you CDL. The skills test has three sections: inspection, basic controls and road test(driving).

We recommend attending a driver’s training school before attempting to pass your test to ensure you are fully prepared. Here you will find a list of truck driving schools in Tennessee.

We Champion Excellence

Here at M&W, we champion excellence. For that reason, we require that our drivers be experienced, safe and healthy.

  • Experienced Drivers

Applicants must be at least 23 years of age and have two years of verifiable tractor-trailer experience before becoming an M&W driver.

We want all our drivers to be fully prepared to take on the responsibilities that the road demands. Two years of experience is the benchmark we believe demonstrates your ability to confidently and expertly haul our precious cargo across the Midwest and Southeast.

  • Safe Drivers

Excellence is safe driving and minimized

violations.  For this reason, drivers must meet the following standards before joining M&W:

    • No license suspensions for a moving violation in the last three years.
    • No more than three moving violations in the last three years—no more than two in the last 12 months.
    • No more than one preventable accident in the last three years.
  • Healthy Drivers

All M&W drivers must pass a pre-employment DOT physical and drug screen. Servicing all over the Midwest and Southeast, we want to ensure our cargo is in good hands.  The health and responsibility of our drivers plays a key role in the success of our drivers and the successful delivery of M&W products.

Live Within Our Service Area

Finally, we require all of our drivers to live within our service

area. Working for M&W isn’t just a job, it’s a lifestyle. We understand the dedication and sacrifices that are necessary to work as a truck driver. That’s why we created our “Homeward Bound” promise — to help take care of you and your family. We want

you and your family to feel safe as a part of our family.  Learn more about our Homeward Bound promise here.
